Mid Bunk Bed
Mid bunk beds come with a higher sleeping area and storage space underneath or a desk and are popular with children from preteens. They're also more flexible than high loft beds because they can convert into two separate single beds.
Some are designed with a ladder and small steps that lead to the top bunk bed. They are also very durable.
Safety

Bunk beds can be a risk particularly for children. Every year thousands of children are treated in hospitals for injuries that result from bunk and loft bed use. The majority of these injuries are minor. Most bunk bed accidents occur when children play on or around the beds. A large portion of these involve falling from the top bunk. There are a variety of ways to reduce the danger, and to keep your children safe in the evening.
You should first choose a bunk bed that is in compliance with all safety standards. Guardrails should extend at a minimum of 3.5" on both sides of the bed and be secured to stop children from falling. Ideally, the guardrails on the upper side should be at least 5 inches higher than the mattress's foundation for additional protection from falls. The ladder must also be secured and securely connected to the bunk bed frame. Steps for the ladder should be made of durable materials and have wide, secure treads to avoid slips. From the very beginning, you must teach your children to use bunk beds properly. This includes not playing with or around the beds, only sleeping in them and keeping their bodies and belongings in the guardrails at all times.
Other measures that are easy to take can lessen the chance of having bunk bed accidents. These include making sure the ladder is not used as a climbing frame and that no ropes or belts are attached to the beds. They could be the risk of strangulation. You should also make sure the ladder is kept away from ceiling or light fixtures to avoid fans to reduce the chance of bumping into them when climbing up and down. Additionally, you should regularly check the bunk bed for signs of wear and tear, particularly any squeaks which could indicate a problem with the bed or components that may compromise the stability or safety of the bed.
Be wary of DIY bunk bed kits as they may not meet the latest safety standards. Always read the guidelines of the manufacturer when buying a brand new bunk bed, and inquire about any additional safety features they might provide.
Space
A mid bunk bed is lower in height than a loft bed or a high sleeper. This means that the space underneath can be used to store items or even as a bed. This can be an ideal option for smaller rooms or for children who require additional sleeping or study space.
There is usually an opportunity to build a desk or bookcase, on the bed's side. This is ideal for homework and storage. Certain models will come with an incredibly low-height wardrobe, which is ideal for younger kids' clothes, while others have cubbies for toys, books and other bits and pieces.
The best mid-bunk beds also come with stairs that lead up to the loft that sleeps, removing the need for ladders, making it easier for kids to climb in and out of bed. They may also feature an open window that adds a fun element of excitement to the space and makes it feel like their own private space.
Some models also have the option of a pull-out sofa or futon, which creates a comfortable lounge area perfect for watching movies with the family or spending time with friends. Others will have a workstation that can be flipped down, which is ideal for children who need to stay focused on their homework and schoolwork.
A majority of our bunk bed frames are constructed of strong, sturdy wood or metal. Metal provides durability and simple maintenance, whereas wood has a classic, warm look. Simply wipe down the surface to keep it clean.
We offer a variety of designs and configurations, including the popular L-shaped bunk. This configuration is ideal for siblings who don't wish to share a traditional bunk bed, but it can also be used to create more exciting play spaces, and provide each child with their own unique space. If you prefer a more modern style, we also have a selection of wooden and metal cabin beds with a more minimalist style. These beds are a great option for modern homes, and they will match most interior design styles.

Some mid bunk beds are made for younger children. The lower tier is often a play area, a mini-study area, or a place to relax. The Lifetime Hideout Mid Sleeper is a great option for children who are adventurous, as it resembles an actual treehouse and comes with the ability to climb and slide for extra fun.
Many mid bunk beds can be transformed into separate singles at a later date, so your children will be able to continue to have their favorite bunks when they get older. The Oliver Furniture Wood Low Bunk Bed for instance, includes an adapter kit that allows it to convert to a single or queen size bed, making it the perfect investment piece for any family.
While a mid bunk bed is a great choice for many families, there are some children who have difficulty with the higher sleeping position or find the ladders/steps a bit intimidating. If this is the case for your child, it's recommended to steer them towards a bed that they can climb in and out of with ease or a daybed which offers an easier option.
